Cross-slate feature film and TV development - Nexus Studios / BFI
Nexus Studios is an Oscar-nominated and Grammy award-winning animation company. Gael helped start up and run a new Original Content department working across film, TV and digital.
Work included developing legal and financial framework, talent and submitted project tracking and evaluation, fundraising, pitch and treatment development, event management and marketing.
“Jazz Duck” - Development Producer Nexus Studios / Amazon Studios
Amazon pilot commission for a pre-school animated TV show. Developed a full bible from an initial sketch and single paragraph, which included episode springboards, design routes and an animation test.
After connecting the project to Amazon Studios they commissioned an 11 minute pilot.
”27 Images” for Kodak and Fjallraven - Producer & Production Manager
Provided producer & production manager services to SkyRise Productions for this short web documentary project. A four-day journey across stunning scenery with photographer, writer and expedition leader Ian Finch.
We filmed Ian as he made his way across the mountains, valleys and forests of the Lake District on a photographic and poetic journey using only a throwaway Kodak camera limited to 27 images to document the trip.
“Waterlog” for Alastair Humphries & DryRobe - Production Manager
Provided production manager services to SkyRise Productions for this short web documentary project.
An imaginary journey swimming from city to sea, inspired by Roger Deakin’s wonderful wild swimming book Waterlog.
Bigger Pictures - Development Producer across drama & documentary slate
Gael worked closely with the management team at Bigger Pictures, researching and developing a wide range of documentary, specialist factual and feature film projects.
Also delivered a complex pitch document to the MEDIA programme which raised £60k of feature film development funding.
“Harry Brown” feature film for UK Film Council / Lionsgate UK - Assistant to the Producers
I worked for the producer to support the production of the Michael Caine feature film Harry Brown. Financing partners included the UK Film Council, Lionsgate and Prescience.
Role included ensuring all legal documents were complete for closing finance, dealing with agents and cast contract negotiations and other legal requirements, on-set visits and publicity in liaison with Freud’s PR and liaison with financiers and distributors.
Worked on-set to support the producer with day-to-day production issues as they arose and took responsibility for several complex night shoots when the producer was unable to attend

Gael and Phil wrote and produced this short film about under ice diving through a scheme with BBC North. North West Vision and Kendal Mountain Film Festival that paired producers and adventurers.

Digital Projects
”Radio Jones” interactive storybook app for Nexus Studios & MEDIA Desk - Development Producer
A storybook app that was funded in partnership with MEDIA.
Managed the €85k funding, assisted the directors with story and visual development, then worked with coders to deliver the final product to the App Store and then to market the project.
The app took the number one slot in the Free Books category for several weeks in the UK and several other territories.
“Nexus Stage” interactive outdoor advertising for Nexus Studios / IC Tomorrow/ Ogily / JCDecaux - Fundraising & Development Producer
Wrote the successful funding application to government funding scheme IC Tomorrow. The challenge was to create the next step in out-of-home advertising. The prize was £25k in seed funding and collaboration with JCDecaux and Ogilvy Labs.
Nexus Stage uses projection mapping to seamlessly merge the physical and digital environments together to create a unique magical interactive visual experience and is aimed at the entertainment, cultural and advertising industries.
Nexus projects utilising the technology included a Webby Award winning permanent interactive installation at The Science Museum called Futureville and an interactive Christmas window called Voyage Magique for Printemps in Paris.
“Mr Kat & Friends” online character brand for Nexus Studios - Development Producer
A charming character-based storyworld created by designer Jaime Alvarez.
Developed a social media calendar, wrote promotional copy and commissioned gif and animation projects to develop an online audience for the characters.
